Geoff
Hitchin was born in Clitheroe in 1942 and attended Brentwood school
in Essex. On completing school he became a Trainee Accountant. He
focused on tax and worked as a Tax Officer / Consultant for nearly
20 years before setting up Marlborough Fund Managers Ltd and the
Marlborough Managed Global Bond Fund in 1987. This was to provide
tax efficient savings for his clients.
Geoff has taken Marlborough Fund Managers
to new heights, with the performance of his Global Bond Fund a major
factor featuring regularly in the press and making people aware of
the Marlborough brand.
The Managed Global Bond Fund has been
for some time and continues to be mainly invested in investment grade
corporate bonds on a worldwide basis (mainly in US Dollars, Sterling
and European currencies) while there are also substantial holdings
in government bonds and a small exposure to more speculative bonds.
In 1998 he started the Marlborough
Bond Income Fund, a corporate bond fund which although still young
by comparison, has performed well. This fund is also principally
invested in investment grade bonds.
Geoff has sole responsibility for
the management of these funds but is assisted both internally and
by external brokers. He also operates within guidelines set out by
the Marlborough Investment Committee, of which he is a member.
